The lab
Seven ventures run from Harare: AttestOS, TightBucket, DeskOS, STPi, Tapstall, Open Practice and Mechanism Audit. Each one is small, self-hosted on free or near-free infrastructure, and sold directly rather than through an app store.
The Jacaranda Labs AI Think Tank funds the books and working papers in the catalogue. It is a funding relationship, not a publisher's peer review: no work here has been independently refereed.
How the ventures are built
- Each venture has its own GitHub account, Cloudflare account and Whop business.
- Free tiers are design material: quotas are budgeted before features are written.
- Work is checked by mechanism audits — does the thing do what the page says it does.
- Failures are published with the same care as successes, and named as failures.
